Sometime last year, a school went viral for inviting a Mat Rempit TikToker to give a speech at the institution. As expected, the school’s decision was met with major criticisms, with many Malaysians questioning its relevance in bringing a Mat Rempit icon for a motivational talk.
A Malaysian, Nagend recently briefly spoke about the matter again via his TikTok post, and like many other Malaysians, he questioned the relevance of bringing a wrong figure into the school for a talk.
“I don’t get it. Sofyank, who does well in graphics has not been invited to any schools yet. He’s the right fit to be an educational icon in Malaysia,” Nagend expressed.
In case you are not aware, Sofyank is a local visual effect (VFX) artist who found success and fame in Hollywood. He recently won the major prize in a VFX competition in Los Angeles, and his success abroad has definitely marked a significant milestone, as well as setting the bar high for the VFX industry in Malaysia.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Nagend said that Sofyank has paved the way for a more sustainable and relevant education for Malaysian youth. He also mentioned another name – Khairul Aming, a local celebrity chef who makes millions by running his own Sambal Nyet business and YouTube channel.
Of course, there is a reason why Nagend highlighted Sofyank and his career, and that is because we cannot deny the importance of technology in today’s world.
“When it comes to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Sofyank is the most relevant figure that schools should have invited. He is an inspiration because he is resilient,” Nagend explained.
He also reminded the youth to choose a hobby and stay passionate about it.
“It doesn’t matter if you make it abroad or not, but what matters is your area of expertise.”
When asked about including VFX in the education syllabus, Nagend also told WORLD OF BUZZ that it’s not just about the marks and grades anymore in terms of today’s education.
“Students, teachers, and parents have to be aware that it’s also about equipping the youth with necessary skills relevant to global needs.”
@kreatifrut #sofyank96 sepatutnya jadi ikon pendidikan negara dah… #sofyank96 #pendidikan
The world is getting more and more competitive and keep this in mind – it will not pause or rest just because you’re left behind. We do hope to see more institutions in Malaysia extending their invitations to public figures that may be helpful in motivating today’s youth.
