Everyone has a story to tell, and unfortunately, not all stories end well. This illustrates the reality of life: not everyone leads an easy life.

The Twitter page TwtWedding had shared an anonymous confession of a Malaysian man who is heartbroken after discovering a secret his mother has been hiding from him. He never had a happy childhood as he had an abusive father who would sexually abuse his mother in front of him and his siblings.

“I endured this hell, until my dad divorced my mom. He had never supported my mom financially.”

It was time to start over and for the sake of survival, his mother had to juggle between three jobs and cook for us. After a long time, he finally had the life that he deserved – access to proper education, and a gentle and loving mother minus the presence of an abusive father.

He’s currently pursuing his studies at a local university while his 2 sisters are still in school.

“My mother would lend a ear to us all the time and I love her more than anything.”

Things were smooth sailing until he found out what his mother does for a living.

Dirty money that came with blood, sweat, and tears

He started realising that when asked where she was working, his mother’s answers would never add up.

“Sometimes she said she was working at a restaurant, but when I asked again, she would change the story, and it did not make sense.”

His world immediately changed after finding out that his mother had been working as a prostitute all these while to support the family. It was tough for him to accept, and the truth prompted him to react harshly.

“I trashed my room. I broke things, I cursed and yelled at her while she was sobbing and apologising.”

To him, his entire life has been funded with “dirty money”, and he couldn’t even look at his mother ever since as he was beyond upset and disgusted. He packed his stuff without thinking much and temporarily stayed at his friend’s place.

“Who the hell wants a mother like this? You should’ve aborted me last time!” he told his mother.

“Am I ungrateful?”

He then recalled his mother’s facial expression after he had thrown all the harsh words at her.

“I’ve never seen her that sad. I feel bad, but I’m also angry. I feel ungrateful.”

He also realised that while his mother has been selling her body to support them all these while, she has never truly lived a life as a mother should – getting whatever she wanted, for fashion, for herself. Taking his matter to Twitter for venting purposes, he sought opinions from fellow netizens and asked if he was truly ungrateful. You can read the full tweet below.

Yes, indeed you are

His story has gained the attention of many Malaysians, who agree that he is indeed ungrateful and has reacted harshly.

“It’s a sinful job, but put yourself in her shoes. Who are you to judge her, did you help her? Logically, do you think there are any mothers out there who want to sell their bodies?”

A netizen pointed out another thing that he should work on is his traits which may have resembled his abusive father.

Another netizen highlighted that he should’ve helped his mom escape the place if he found her disgusting and found better opportunities for her.

Life can be tragic at times, and when obstacles hit us hard, it can be anxious and tough to navigate. We’re not one to judge his mother’s options, but what do you think the man should do now?
