We’ve heard many warnings against charging your phone with a powerbank overnight as it runs the dangerous risk of exploding while you sleep. But the other warning that many tend to ignore is making sure your powerbank is purchased from a trusted provider to avoid occurrences like these from happening altogether!
Recently, a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong was interrupted on Christmas day (25th December) when a 26-year-old man’s powerbank abruptly exploded as he was charging his phone during the journey.
To the dismay of passengers and crew members, the plane had to make an emergency landing at Tan Son Nhat Airport, Vietnam as the explosion injured the man’s thigh and left hand, and he had to be attended by medical professionals immediately, as reported by Sin Chew Daily.
Thankfully, ground staff and a medical team were stationed with ambulances when the plane landed so the injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment instantly. Upon further investigation conducted by the Vietnam Aviation authorities, it was discovered that the unverified brand of the powerbank was the reason behind the accident.
So think twice the next time you’re thinking of buying a cheap powerbank with a brand you’re unfamiliar with. It may be a little bit more pricey but it’s better to be safe than sorry!
