Having held onto a grudge for some time, a man ended up snapping and attacking his elderly neighbour with an iron rod at Pengkalan Jajar, Melaka, on Thursday (April 3) at 8:30am. The victim, who is a 65-year-old retiree, suffered an injury to his left knee due to the attack.

According to a report by Kosmo, the Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, shared that, after the victim had made a police report about the assault, their investigations found that the incident stemmed from a long-standing dispute between the victim and the suspect.

“Following a police report made by the victim, members of the Melaka Tengah District Criminal Investigation Division arrested the 40-year-old suspect at 1pm on the same day,”

“As a result of the interrogation, the suspect stated that the elderly man often made loud noises through karaoke, disrupting the peace of his family. The victim had also been confronted over this before but ignored it,” he said.

This then led to the assault, which took place when the elderly man was returning from his jogging activities.

“On the day of the incident, the suspect is said to have first thrown firecrackers towards the victim’s house, but the elderly man, who wanted to go for a jog, ignored him and continued his activities as usual,”

“However, after jogging, the victim ran into the suspect and an argument broke out between them, with verbal exchanges and spitting before the suspect hit the victim with a blue iron rod,” he added.

They allegedly also had a physical struggle with each other before the suspect fled the scene.
