Flying cars are the future! Or that was what we were promised back in the day, with movies like Back To The Future and Blade Runner. Whether it’s an apocalyptic cyberpunk future or a Utopian paradise, sure got flying cars somewhere in the picture one. But so far in the 21st Century, the only things that seem to be flying are our wallets every time we spend money on petrol. Haih.

But remember the flying cars that were ambitiously proposed by the government a while back? The ones with the big kipas wings? Apparently they are going to become a reality very soon, according to reports by Kwong Wah Daily and FMT!

The Minister of Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan, has said today (17th October 2019) that the flying cars initiative will likely be realised with a functioning prototype scheduled for launch in Q3 of 2020.

He told members of the Dewan Rakyat that talks are currently being held with various major technology providers to discuss on bringing this potentially revolutionary project to life.

This was in response to Khairy Jamaluddin asking about the readiness of the ecosystem needed to support the manufacture of flying cars within Malaysia.

Datuk Redzuan also said that a functioning prototype of the proposed flying car will be ready by the end of 2020, with the cost of manufacture to be borne by private companies.

The proposed flying car can shorten a typically 4 hour journey from KL to Penang to just 1 hour, he added.

He also mentioned that the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development is also pushing for the new development of A.I, the Internet of Things (Internet accessible appliances), and Big Data.

However, it is also worth noting that the initial date slated for the unveiling of the flying car prototype was supposed to be by this month, but the minister said that they ran into some problems in the adapting of new technologies.

So how likely do you all think this flying car project is going to take off (see what we did there)? Are you excited? Let us know!
