Taking to TikTok, this netizen can be seen scolding a security guard at a construction site for requesting his IC upon entry.

“Why is security keeping my IC? Under Malaysian law, you CANNOT keep my IC!”

Intervening halfway through the video, here is what this legal expert shared.

He stated, “Have you ever found yourself in a situation where your IC or passport is requested before accessing a construction site?”

“Contractors, listen carefully. JPN has issued a statement stating that it is an offence for your MyKad to be kept by individuals other than the police, customs or army personnel.”

So what do you do instead?

“If security guards are asking for your identification, just provide them with your CIDB card.”

We hope that this advice will suffice.
