Malfunctioned street lights can be dangerous as driving in a dark area not only compromises the vision of the driver but it might also lead to accidents. That was what happened recently to a Malaysian driver, Ian, whose car sustained damages thanks to the malfunctioned street lights in Bangi.

Ian reached out to WORLD OF BUZZ  to share his unfortunate experience that happened on February 8 at Persiaran Universiti in Bangi, just in front of UKM. First and foremost, let’s take a look at the picture that Ian provided us.

It was complete darkness and we can only get a glimpse of the condition of the road whenever a car drove by. Ian told WORLD OF BUZZ that there were street lights in the area but none of them worked.

Now, let’s take a look at the video below to get a clearer look of the road.

The curb in the middle of the road is only visible with the “help” of the headlight from the cars that drove by. Due to the poor lighting, Ian, who was with his girlfriend during the accident hit the curb. This caused damage not only to the right side of the front wheel but also to the suspension and the front bumper.

We can only imagine the pending maintenance fee, and at the time of writing, Ian and his girlfriend are left without a car as it’s the only car the couple have. Ian also provided a rough sketch of the road to WORLD OF BUZZ.

As of February 9, they have yet to lodge a police report or proceed with the insurance claim. However, the couple would like to spread awareness about the road condition in the area before the same thing happens to other drivers.

“How many people have suffered, and will have to suffer the same misfortune before the road conditions improve? Why do I have to risk my job because an unlit road cost me my car in this country where public transport isn’t reliable?”

Unfortunately, malfunctioned street lights is not a new issue in Malaysia as many drivers in other places also have to deal with the dangers on dark roads. It’s even riskier when you’re driving on a road with malfunctioned street lights when it’s raining. So, do be careful on the road to avoid any unwanted accidents.
