Parking charges are undeniably steep in certain parts of Malaysia, especially in the city centre where it tends to get more congested. Plus, if you have parked at an airport before, you would know that the parking fees there aren’t exactly the cheapest either!

Melody Radio DJ Anson Kow recently learnt this the hard way when he parked his car at one of the parking lots in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) recently. He had just come back from a short trip to Hong Kong and was shocked to find that his parking fees cost a whopping RM357 for two and a half days, Sinchew reported. Wow, can buy flight ticket already!

In his Facebook post, he said, “Yesterday I was too tired to feel anything, this is the most expensive parking fees that I have ever paid in my life. I can only blame myself for being too careless.” The post included a photo of the receipt of the parking fees as well.

Based on his post, Anson appears to have parked at the Preferred Parking section, which has a slightly more expensive parking rate and better facilities. He did not realise this until he received the amount that he needed to pay and discovered that he must have entered the wrong area. FYI, there are long term and short term parking spots available at different rates!

On the website parking.com.my, parking charges for preferred parking appear to be starting from RM5 per hour until the fourth hour where it would cost RM6 per hour. No wonder so expensive lah! Netizens were rather amused by this and some of them even said that he should have reported that his ticket was lost instead. A few also said that he should have taken public transport like the KLIA express or even e-hailing rides as it would have been way cheaper. Another netizen said she experienced the same thing and had to pay RM750 as she had wrongly entered the preferred parking area as well.

Guess this serves as a good reminder that we should choose our parking areas properly. Remember to look out for signs that say you are entering the preferred parking zone to avoid this hefty fee!
