No matter the circumstance or situation, it’s always important to remember that we all inhabit the same Earth, and that we all have to care for it before it’s too late.
Malaysian TikToker @tarique.syahman has been making waves online after he displayed how he composts kitchen waste in his house using the most environmentally friendly method.
In the 30-second clip, Tarique revealed that he had dug a hole in his garden before covering it with a small pot. Lifting the pot, Tarique explained how he cut up a plastic bin and inserted it into the ditch.
Tarique then throws his kitchen waste into the hole. Explaining the idea behind his method, Tarique stated that the area surrounding where his house is can often be plagued by monkeys.
“If we throw it away like normal, the monkeys will come and try to eat the waste, so I made the ditch instead,” said Tarique at the end of the clip.
Amazed by his creation, a few users thanked Tarique for showing them such a method, so they can start their composting journey, too.
“Thanks for sharing this brother. My mother loves to collect waste until there are bugs in our kitchen to make compost,” wrote one user, while another stated that this method would help reduce the amount of trash thrown away through plastic bags.
A few users expressed their concern over such a method, wondering if burying waste in the ground would attract termites or cause an unpleasant smell. However, Tarique reassured those commenters that such an instance would not occur, and instead, the waste would merely break down naturally.
Sharing their take on the matter, other users also suggested similar and alternative ways to compost waste.
“To make things easier, blend all the kitchen waste, it’ll be quicker to decay,” added one user.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Tarique stated that this method of his has evolved over the years.
“Before this, I used to pile my kitchen waste in the ground and cover it with leaves. But monkeys would come and make a mess, so I had the idea to bury them and make a cover that is on the same level,” he said to WORLD OF BUZZ.
Elaborating further, Tarique also added that the dustbin he bought to insert in the ground cost him RM2.40, alongside the pot cover which was also the same price. In total, he only paid RM5 to make the setup.
With some users asking how Tarique created the item, he also shared a video describing how to make the composting area on his TikTok page.
