Deacon Chai, also known as Xiao Honey, is a local content creator and singer. He is known for his online personality where he often cross-dresses as a woman, and his Chinese New Year song (both Chinese and Malay versions) a few months ago garnered more than 2.5 million views.

A few days ago, Deacon Chai shared an old picture of himself in a Facebook posting which garnered a lot of attention from the netizens. In the post, he compared his old self with a picture of his current self, and said he’s much more confident now.

The old picture shows Deacon Chai in a sweater and a pair of jeans, in contrast with his current outfit of a dress and high heels. He also had a beard and a trendy male hairstyle.

“Time has changed a lot, 5 years ago when I was a boy. . . I  like to travel spontaneously. The only thing that has not changed is that I still love adventures and travel the world alone. .” he wrote in the caption.

He also asked, “Do you think I look like View Chin (a Malaysian live streamer) in the past?”

Although the comments section is filled with mixed reactions, most netizens think he looked good in the past, and asked him to stop dressing as a woman. Some also said that they will continue to support him.

“You’re more handsome than view chin.”

“It’s time to go back to being who you are,” a netizen commented.

“You look better this way!” shared another netizen.

“You can be very masculine actually, why would you want to dress up as a woman…” asked one user.

Although Deacon Chai has not made an official statement yet, from his vague responses, it seems that cross-dressing is not merely his online personality, but he actually enjoys dressing as a woman because he feels more comfortable that way.
