Taking to Twitter, Muar MP Syed Saddiq recently went on a a rampage, where he questioned certain ministries and agencies for not paying interns despite a policy which was made effective September 1, 2019.

The then Minister of Youth and Sports announced that it was the government’s decision at the time to increase paid internship allowance in the Ministry/Agency/Department from RM300 to RM900.

But that is still NOT the case today.

“Why are there ministries and agencies, failing to pay their intern, which is a breach of the government’s promise,” he stated.

“I have received a number of text messages from our youth, asking for payments, because they received none!”

Commenting on the outburst, those currently serving their internship have also shared their stories of not receiving any payment.

“I work at a district municipal. We have yet to receive any allowance under the excuse that we were serving less than three months of internship,” wrote the user.

Let’s hope that the respective ministry will do the necessary and hope that we see interns getting paid in the future.
