Is this real life or is this just fantasy?

Recently, Malaysian students who sat for the SPM Add Math paper said that the questions were ridiculously hard that they started a petition to lower the passing mark to be 5% and A+ for 50%. Well d’uh, it’s called Add Math, of course it got added difficulty lah!

Well, it seems that the trend of starting petitions when the going gets tough is catching on to their seniors as well considering there is now also a Change.org petition to lower the requirement to get a “Dean’s List” award in Malaysian universities and colleges to only a whopping pointer of 2.00. (Will it be retroactive though? I’ve got A LOT of Dean’s List awards from my college to collect if so…)

Hilariously found by Twitter user @zahIDGAF, the petition is close to the 1000 signatures at the time of writing, so we guess it’s time for an education revolution that most college students would agree to then!

Okay, after a closer inspection, we are beginning to suspect that this Change.org petition is nothing but a troll. I mean, just look at the description weh! It’s basically an unedited body template except at the end which just said:

“What are you reading for? Just sign the thing!”

Of course, just like any other trolls on the internet, there is always that one person that bites the bait as can be seen by the various replies @zahIDGAF got on his tweet.

Here are some of the more absurd ones:

“Students nowadays are getting too pampered, developed countries set their pointer for 3.7 for Dean’s List.. Struggle is real, pain and gain.. If during your study you don’t struggle, you won’t make it in the working field.”

“Hahaha, this is why other nations laugh at us.. Make effort guys.. If you struggle you won’t get 2.00!”

“How can our education system strive if this is how our student react to adversity? I pity those who study hard night and day to succeed but then some random lazy student just create a petition..”

Okay boomer, calm down. Issa joke.

What do you guys think of this petition? Are Change.org petitions just for memes now or is changing the Dean’s List pointer requirement to 2.00 really a good thing? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section!
