The practice session of the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix was interrupted by uninvited guests yesterday (15 September) as at least 3 monitor lizards wandered onto the race track.

Taking to X, the official Formula 1 account shared a photo and the conversation between Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen’s encounter with one of the monitor lizards, which is smaller than the other 2 spotted.

Verstappen can be heard saying “there’s a lizard again on the track, it’s a smaller one this time!”, to which the GP jokingly replied, “Okay understood, maybe Godzilla had a kid”.

As reported by The Straits Times, one giant monitor lizard wandered onto the track at Turn 9, prompting the marshals to wave the yellow flags asking the drivers to slow down due to the hazards. Prior to that, the drivers can be seen manoeuvring their race cars around the monitor lizard.

The monitor lizard was then removed after 10 minutes, but just 5 minutes later, the aforementioned smaller lizard entered the race track.

Besides that, another lizard was also spotted. However, the lizard met a rather grizzly end as it appeared to have been run over by Fernando Alonso.

This is not the first time a monitor lizard was spotted on the race track, as back in 2016 in the same venue, Verstappen also encountered a monitor lizard on the track.
