A viral video recently showed a group of students at a local university occupying part of a mosque for a Mobile Legends Carnival, where funeral prayers were allegedly about to take place.

“I was shocked after I entered the mosque and saw a bunch of students playing Mobile Legends without considering the people in the worship house.”

According to the TikTok user @_nabilahhassan, the woman pointed out the lack of sensitivity in organising the gaming event at an inappropriate place and time. She then approached the auxiliary police, who were also not fond of the event.

The woman then asked to speak to the organiser but said that the auxiliary police had taken care of the matter.

“No sensitivity at all! The organiser looked like he didn’t care after he was told about the concern. I am very worried for our younger generations!”

“How did this event get approved in the first place?”

Was the event scheduled at the mosque during an ongoing funeral prayer?

In an official statement last night (June 2), the Universiti Putra Malaysia Student Representative Council (UPM MPP) broke the silence and denied all allegations about an ongoing funeral prayer during the Mobile Legends Carnival. Its President, Umar Akhtar Ab Malek, stressed that the accusations were untrue and misleading, thus creating misunderstandings towards the management of the UPM Mosque and the Islamic Centre.

“The allegations not only tarnishes the mosque’s reputation, but also gives a negative image of the university as a whole.”

Umar also said that the event was initially scheduled to take place in the Mosque’s Smart Classroom, and not in the prayer room as claimed.

“However, there was a change of location to an area outside the room due to space constraints while the program was running.”

Umar also clarified that there were no bodies and no funeral prayers taking place during the carnival, and the bodies in question only arrived after the activity was immediately stopped out of respect for the situation.

Masjid UPM jadi tempat karnival Mobile Legend?! THIS IS NOT OKAY! Terkejut sangat bila masuk masjid, tiba tiba ada satu ruang, penuh students main game tanpa hira orang keliling. At the same time 2 jenazah tengah bersedia untuk solat jenazah di Masjid! Admin approach polis bantuan. Diorang pun tak ok. Admin minta nak jumpa organiser. Tapi last sekali polis dah settlekan. Sungguh memalukan! Ini ke hasil graduan menara gading research uni and top uni yang di banggakan Malaysia! Langsung takde sensitiviti! Main game dah satu hal. Dalam masjid lagi satu hal. Muka organiser lepas kena tegur langsung takde rasa bersalah. I am super worried bout our younger generations! Jemput semua viralkan sebab sadly orang zaman sekarang lagi takut viral dari takut Allah 😡 Tak tahu macam mana program macam ni boleh dapat kelulusan?!
