As many now know, authorities are coming down hard on Malaysians who aren’t taking the Movement Control Order (MCO) seriously. Aside from deploying PDRM task forces and possibly the army to enforce strict measures for the public to comply, medical experts have also come forward to share why the public needs to follow this Order before we suffer the same consequences Italy is now experiencing.

Hospitals may not be able to cope if the cases continue to rise at the current rates of increase in cases of Covid-19,” said Malaysian Medical Association president, Dr N Ganabaskaran yesterday (19th March), in a statement recorded by NST.

The current ignorance displayed by Malaysians who continue to ignore the MCO and attend gatherings are worryingly similar to the way Italians reacted to the outbreak before their entire country went on lockdown. “The people in Italy continued to congregate, attend mass gatherings and social activities in the beginning when cases started to rise and now there are 35,713 cases and 2,978 deaths from Covid-19 reported there,” he added. This statement was made just a day before it was shockingly discovered that Italy’s death toll rose to 3,405, exceeding the death toll of China -Covid-19’s country of origin.

“Furthermore, the health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had also warned that if there is no improvement, the MCO may be extended.” Dr Ganabaskaran said this extension would cause even worse problems for our country as Malaysians will begin to experience loss of jobs, income and businesses shutting down.

He went on to add that the Communications and Multimedia Ministry holds the responsibility of making sure the public are informed about the importance to strictly comply by the MCO.

“The public must be aware of the seriousness and dire consequences of non-compliance to the MCO.”

This comes right after PDRM warned the public that anybody who disobeys the MCO will face a RM1,000 fine or 6 months jail time. Currently, Malaysia has recorded 900 Covid-19 cases, with it’s 110 newly reported yesterday (19th March).

Don’t be ignorant, keep yourself and your loved ones safe by staying at home.
