Uh-oh! Attention all Malaysian gamers!

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) just made the move to block access to our beloved steam store after a controversy involving a God fighting game. Yes. Banned. Access. To. Our. Steam. Store.

The game known as Fight of Gods features religious deities such as Zeus, Odin, Amaterasu, Moses, Guan Gong and more, and the selected Gods of the players’ choice are put in an arcade style battle.

However, recently, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding this game as religious leaders in Malaysia condemned it for featuring Buddha and Jesus. Apparently, Prophet Muhammad is also favoured to be added to the game in the future.

In light of this case, MCMC contacted Valve ealier today to request that the game be geoblocked to Malaysians within the next 24 hours or actions will be taken. And looks like they actually did!

So instead of having the game blocked, MCMC banned entire access to the steam store with their DNS block on the store.steampowered.com domain.

Many reported that they were unable to log into their accounts to play other games like DotA as well.

While the block is in action, some Malaysians reported that they are able to access the site, though many others said that they still couldn’t. I’m one of these people T_T

Following this block, Malaysians expressed their outrage, especially when it’s a Friday night! Yes, we could use Google DNS but why lah this move in the first place…

Anyway, looks like we’ll have to wait and see what happens next! What did you think of MCMC’s move to ban this game?
