Depressing news for fellow gamers who use Maybank. Maybank is cockblocking every Malaysian gamer out there who uses Maybank to run their transactions. The bank is executing tighter security measures by blocking non 3D secured sites by declining their transactions. It was said that sites that do not implement MSOS (Maybank Secure Online Shopping)/One Time Password authentication would not be able to carry out transactions due to the high security risks involved.
Many Malaysian gamers have been complaining about their online gaming purchases being rejected and it was soon realised that Steam transactions are blocked from Maybank after contacting customer support.
In addtion, Origin was not spared from the block. Maybank is taking necessary precautions to halt any dealings online from all gaming portals to prevent any important information being stolen.
Fear not, it is not permanent! If you wanted the block lifted, you can contact customer service at 1-300-88-6688, though it will be a slight hassle. Since Steam has converted their prices to Malaysian Ringgit (MYR), the platform stopped supporting PayPal. Hence, Malaysians will have to use a card from a different bank to carry out their purchases.
