How many of us have tried to sacrifice something in order to please our loved ones?

Although most of us would do anything for the ones we love, how many of us would be willing to brave extremely cold weather just for your spouse to get nice clothes? Well, that’s what this man recently did!

According to Shanghaiist, Zhao Fangzi, a sixty-year-old migrant worker from Henan, China, had walked 40 kilometers to his home on foot last Friday (26th January 2018). Yep – on foot! That too whilst smiling!

He chose to walk after learning that the blizzard had shut down bus services.

Instead of easing his life by spending 200 yuan (RM121.87) on a cab or getting a hotel room for the night to wait out the blizzard, he opted to brave heavy snow all the way back home. He reportedly did this so he could save money to buy new clothes for his wife this Chinese New Year. Aww!

“Money doesn’t come easily,” he told the local media.

Bearing the weight of his belongings, including a sleeping mat, electric fan, and bedding, Zhao said that it didn’t feel that cold to him.

“The more you walk, the warmer you feel,” he explained.

Zhao, who is a construction worker in Shanghai, makes about 2,000 yuan (RM1,225.43) a month so he said that if he doesn’t sacrifice a little, he would not be able to save anything for his wife. He also mentioned that his employer owes him a backpay of 10,000 yuan (RM6,127. 17) but had reportedly promised to pay him after Chinese New Year. Let’s hope he gets it in time, then!

He also added that he was heading on a one-way journey because he was going to retire and has no intention of returning to Shanghai.

“I’m already 60 years old, and it’s time to retire. We have pensions too, after all,” he said.

Zhao’s touching story soon caught the attention from local netizens in a short span of time.

One person commented, “Life is never easy, hope you get home safe.”  While another wrote, “He walked for 40 kilometers just to save buy new clothes his wife – that is the sweetest love in the world.”

Needless to say, the internet was definitely moved by Zhao’s decision to brave the storm back home!

It is amazing what someone will do for love. Zhao’s love for his wife is an example of love in its purest form. Also, he proved to the world that love really means going the extra mile for your significant other – literally!

We really do hope he gets to buy his wife some new clothes and gets to celebrate a Chinese New Year that is filled with joy and love. Our best wishes to Zhao!
