A toothache should never be taken lightly or treated with unproven remedies. A temporary cure for the pain does not mean that the problem is gone and it might lead to severe complications in the future.
A dentist by the name of Happy Wee shared about a severe dental case that could have easily been avoided if the patient had sought out proper medical care.
A man with a bad toothache decided to apply brake fluid to the area instead of visiting an actual dentist.
It worked early on, but after a few weeks, his other tooth started to cause pain, and this time, his brake fluid ‘therapy’ did not work.
However, he still did not go to the dentist.
He chose to see a regular doctor for a checkup and was prescribed some antibiotics and pain killers. But after a week, the pills did not work, and the side of his face started to swell.
When he finally decided to see a dentist, he was immediately referred to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab 2 as his condition was indeed severe. There, they removed the tooth and drained all the pus.
Unfortunately, the infection had affected his nerves and brain. He referred him to a different specialist to deal with the matter.
He was then diagnosed with septic encephalopathy and was admitted into the ICU where they drained even more pus. After a week in ICU, he got better and was transferred to a regular ward.
With the consent of the patient, Happy Wee shared the incident so that all of us are more aware of our dental health and we should not rely on unproven remedies that give temporary relief. If you are suffering from a toothache, please visit your dentist as soon as possible. Ok?
