A man from China was recently diagnosed with an ‘eye stroke’ after he suffered from temporary blindness because he used his smartphone in the dark for too long.

Following a source from Mothership.sg, the man who is known as, Wang, is from the Xi’an province and had to seek medical attention after he suddenly lost his ability to see.

Wang said he began to grow concerned when his right eye could barely see the words on his phone but little did he know that what he was facing was much more severe than just everyday eye fatigue.

An eye stroke can also be identified as a retinal artery occlusion. This occurs when a clot forms on blood vessels in the retina narrow. Your ability to see is then hindered because it impedes the flow of signals to your brain.

Wang said it was a bad habit of his to play games on his phone at night, which he has to quit now after nearly being scared to death from temporary blindness. He continued saying that his wife had constantly advised him to not look at his phone at night because the white light emitting from the screen was too bright for his eyes.

Unfortunately, Wang’s doctor revealed that having an eye stroke these days is actually a lot more common than it used to be. In fact, the medical consultant said that he treats about 20 of such cases every month!

Eye strokes may be temporary but it can lead to permanent blindness and affect a person’s quality of life if it is not treated immediately.

However, prevention is always better than cure and the doctor advises all night-owls to not spend so much time behind the screen and if possible, to sleep earlier. By taking these pre-cautionary measures, you can avoid falling victim to the common, scary eye stroke.
