Over the weekend, a Facebook video went viral among Malaysian netizens due to its disturbing content.

The video, which has since been taken down, showed a young girl sitting on a grown man’s lap at a funfair. The grown man can be clearly seen inappropriately touching the girl’s chest from underneath her dress while kissing her. The incident reportedly took place in Taman Ria, Sg Petani at 11.30pm on Saturday (20th January), according to The Star.

The young girl’s mother was horrified upon discovering the video when it started to circulate on social media the following day, leading her to confront the man, who was a close family friend. He reportedly apologised to her before running away.

Netizens were also understandably shocked seeing such a young girl being violated and demanded that the man be arrested and punished. Meanwhile, since the video clearly shows the child’s face, activists have urged the public not to share it in efforts to protect her.

According to Channel NewsAsia, the girl’s mother told the authorities that he came over to their home that night and asked if he could bring her 7-year-old daughter out for some food. He then returned with her two hours later.

Thankfully, police have already detained the man in question at around 3.10pm yesterday (22nd January). The case will be investigated under Section 14 of the Child Act for physical and sexual assault of a child, according to the Malay Mail Online.

Meanwhile, the young girl has since been taken to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a medical examination.

We’re glad this man has finally been caught! Let’s hope that he will be appropriately punished and that the young girl can recover from her traumatic experience in peace.
