Depending on how we grew up, everyone has different dining etiquettes. For example, some families insist on waiting for everyone’s food to arrive to start the meal together and some don’t.
As for cleaning up after ourselves after a meal, practices also differ depending on WHERE we’re dining. There is little to no expectation to return our plates at a food court but there is an assumption that customers should return their own trays at certain fast food restaurants.
Recently, a man cleaning up his table after having a meal at the Tapah R&R was praised by netizens for setting a good example to everyone.
In the video shared on the Facebook page Perak Press, the man can be seen arranging some plates, bowls and rubbish into two neat stacks before pushing in his chair and leaving.
Malaysians show support
Malaysians have pointed out that doing what the man did is not difficult.
“It just depends on whether you want to or not”, said one netizen who used to work in a cafe.
He added that it was rare to encounter customers who would clean up after themselves and ease the burden of restaurant staff. “We need to instill this habit in kids so that this culture can continue,” he said.
Another netizen added that what the man did is common sense and that it all starts from our elders.
“When we (the elders) do it, kids will tend to do the same as time passes. Like myself, my parents used to always do this and I just somehow picked up the habit too.”
