Moving to a foreign country is usually a very exciting yet daunting feeling.

It is exciting because you get to discover a new place but then, there’s always the possibility of something going wrong. You’re after all a foreigner.

And for these Algerians, things really went south for them on their very first day in Malaysia.

Two students who enrolled into a local private university in Malaysia  came to Kuala Lumpur together with their father.

But the trip to Bolehland turned into a nightmare as they had their things stolen, and it was allegedly done by the university’s own van driver!

A fellow university mate shared how these 3 foreigners arrived in a brand new country only to be cheated by those who were supposed to help them.

The student wrote,

“Recently, I came across the case of 2 Algerian students who just arrived in Malaysia with their father to start their first semester.

“Little did they know that under the care of the driver and the International Student Services Department (ISSD) agent, 7600 Euros (RM35,638) would ‘DISAPPEAR’ from their bags.”

“When the agent picked them up and they got into the vehicle, the driver took them to KLIA 2 apparently to pick up another student.

“The father of the students wanted to buy a sim-card to communicate with the others so they decided to take the opportunity and buy it from the terminal.

“As soon as they disembarked from the vehicle and walked a few steps, the driver sped off. The father immediately told the agent to tell the driver to stop as he had important things in the bags.

“This was BEFORE the driver left the vicinity of the airport. The agent refused to call him and assured the father that their belongings were safe since they were under the care of the university’s driver.”

“Still not convinced, the father repeatedly told him to call the driver but the agent refused to do so. The driver disappeared for TWO HOURS without any prior notification!

“Finally, when the driver returned, the agent again assured them everything is fine and and took them to their drop-off point.

“The father told the agent to instruct the driver not to leave until he made sure that his money was safe.

“He opened his bags in front of the agent and discovered that one of the two pouches, in which he was carrying money in, was opened and the money was missing.”

Of course, after this incident, the father and two children made a police report but the institute did not heed their report. The police remanded the driver but he was spotted roaming around like nothing happened two days later.

According to a former student of the private university, the 3 of them arrived on February 8, 2017. However, they only received a response from the institute after the Facebook post went up.

It actually took them almost 20 days to get back to them!

In the end, the university offered half the amount to be returned to them. The former student told World Of Buzz that this insinuates the fact that the driver DID steal from the Algerian father and kids. Or perhaps the university would just like to have the case settled once and or all.

Many students who read the story shared their own stories that they encountered in their respective universities. What was the worst thing that has ever happened in your institute?
