As we all know, the process of applying for internships is part and parcel of university life. It’s a stressful process, especially when you’re waiting for potential employers to respond to your application.

Malissa, a Malaysian studying in the United Kingdom, has taken to Facebook to share something she has observed about Malaysian companies while she was in the midst of applying for internships.

She shares her frustration and disappointment about the companies in Malaysia as opposed to companies in the UK.

In the public post, she explains that she has been applying for internships in companies from the U.K. and Malaysia. During this process, Malissa noticed one alarming difference between the way Malaysian and British companies responded to her applications.

She received replies from all the U.K. companies she applied for, regardless of whether or not she got accepted. For the companies that rejected her, they explained why she was rejected and even offered resources that could help her improve herself.

However, as for the Malaysian companies (except for the multinational companies), none of them responded to her applications.

She felt that this might be one of the reasons why many Malaysians are leaving the country in search for better job opportunities.

The post  rapidly started circulating around Facebook. Some commenters agreed with her post, stating that they have also encountered similar situations with local companies.

It appears that companies leaving applicants in the dark has unfortunately become common practice that many Malaysians are faced with. However, just because it’s common, doesn’t mean that it should be acceptable!

Employers giving applicants the cold shoulder sheds the company in a bad light, causing people to avoid applying for jobs in companies like this.

What do you think? Have you faced the same problem while applying for jobs in Malaysia? Let us know!
