Taking quick showers are not news to us when it comes to saving water, but how quickly should we shower exactly?

According to professor Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, we should all shower in less than THREE minutes. He advocated about environmental health on Bicara Minda Sinar Harian yesterday (18th October) at Shah Alam.

Here’s his explanation, a 3-minute shower will use up about 10 litres of water. And if we shower more than 3 minutes, it means we’re using more than 10 litres of water, indirectly causing more trees to be cut down.

Why would using more water have anything to do with deforestation? Read on.

He then added the trees are cut down to build more reservoirs, and more electricity will be required to power the reservoirs. Thus, by saving water, we can also decrease the production of greenhouse gases.

The professor says that the best approach to protect the environment is by educating society instead of implementing laws and rules.

“I think we rely too much on legislations only to prove people wrong and it’s not as easy as it seems. It is also too time-consuming to prove someone guilty as well as to fight for justice, in the end, it’s not as effective as we thought.”

As reported on Astro Awani, Dr Zaini Ujang also explained that he would prefer the approach of educating everyone to appreciate fresh air as it’s very much needed for our health benefits. It’s way more efficient to educate Malaysian people to love and appreciate the environment than enforcing rules unto them.

We’re not sure if all of us can shower in less than three minutes given that washing long locks would’ve already taken three minutes. Nevertheless, we should totally give this approach a shot for the sake of our environment. Take mindful showers, guys!
