WATCH: Malay Couple Cooks Vegetarian Food in Chinese Friend’s House for Thaipusam Devotees
Over the past weekend when Malaysians celebrated the last day of Chinese New Year and Thaipusam, it would’ve been easy for clashes to occur during the celebrations if anyone felt particularly petty.
Thankfully, none of that happened this year. Instead, we got a 2 in 1 celebration when a lion dance troupe briefly passed by a Thaipusam procession!
One Malaysian politician, Farid Maulud also shared a TikTok video of how he and his wife joined in on the festivities by helping to prepare vegetarian meals at his Chinese friend’s house.
After they prepared the food, they distributed them to the public, some tourists and most importantly, those celebrating Thaipusam.
Skin colour not a barrier
“Yes, I am Muslim, but that does not stop us from strengthening the bonds between people of different races in Malaysia,” Farid said in his video.
He also thought it was really nice seeing even little kids joining in on the food preparation. “Look here. There’re Chinese, Indian and Malay people, all packing the food together.
“So, let’s not discriminate based on skin colour. We should be strengthening our bonds. After all, we’re Malaysians, no? Happy Thaipusam, everyone.”
Netizens shower praise
In the comments, netizens were touched by the video and praised Farid for his Malaysian spirit.
“Respect brother. This is what we call Malaysian.”
