If you’ve been struggling to get a proper job that you like because you’re a super picky person, here’s some good news!

Recently, our prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has advised Malaysians to not be too picky and just work low-wage jobs instead of being unemployed. He even encouraged us to get our hands dirty by taking up dangerous and difficult jobs, despite the low salary. After all, he said that this is better than not earning anything if one were to be jobless since having a low income is better than no income.

However, if you beg to differ and would only opt for jobs of a certain standard, you’ll be glad to know that this year (2019), the government will be creating a total of 50,000 job opportunities for all Malaysians – and not just any regular job too, but high-quality ones. Wah, sounds like we’ll have better options to choose from! 

According to The Sun Daily, this good news was mentioned by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng in a statement in conjunction with Labour Day. He was quoted by the daily as saying,

“The government is encouraging investment into new sectors directly relevant to Industry 4.0 that will create high-quality jobs for all Malaysians.”

“But we do not want just any job. We need jobs that uplift us instead of trapping us in a vicious cycle that threatens to leave us with little security during an emergency. We need jobs that support shared prosperity,” he added.

Hopefully the new high-quality job options won’t be the kind that puts us in a vicious cycle!

Adding on, Lim Guan Eng said that Malaysia is now experiencing a structural change because of competition from low-cost neighbouring countries like Vietnam, which is why it is important that more high-quality jobs be made available here.

As for how the government will be able to do so, it was reported that the country’s total approved foreign direct investment (FDI) has increased by a whopping 48 per cent, from RM54.4 billion in 2017 to RM80.5 billion in 2018.

Well, this certainly sounds promising for our local workforce and hopefully it will lower the unemployment rate in our country.
