Zulfadli Blew His Chance Of Becoming Top Player Says Veteran Lee Chong Wei - World Of Buzz 4

Dato Lee Chong Wei has said that it depends on BAM and the Sports Ministry to help Zulfadli Zulkiffli or not.

National shuttler Zulfadli has been banned for 20 years and fined US$25,000 (RM98,000) by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for match-fixing. This became huge news as Whatsapp messages between him and Tan Chun Seang held clear evidence that the both of them were discussing about a rigged match.

The former world junior champion held a press conference at a hotel in Petaling Jaya today, claiming that he was unfairly tried by BWF’s Ethics Hearing Panel. He said he wants to seek justice, but admitted he will not be able to afford the fine. If he appeals, he must pay the hefty fine in full.

The veteran shuttler Dato LCW who spoke to New Straits Times about the ongoing case said, “I know that our president (Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria) has made it clear, that Zulfadli should contact the BAM if he needs help, so let’s wait and see.

“I can only say that this is a huge waste of talent. Zulfadli had all the chances to make it as a top player, and he blew them away.

“I agree with the BWF and their decision to send out this strong message to everyone, especially junior shuttlers.

“One sad thing is we (Malaysia) are now linked to this shameful act of match-fixing.”

According to media reports, former junior world champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli and Tan Chun Seang were handed a 20 year and a 15 year ban respectively for breaking the BWF Code of Conduct in Relation to Betting, Wagering and Irregular Match Results.

The BWF said that the duo will be barred from any involvement in badminton including administrative, coaching, officiating, or developmental functions. This is a great big deal as they are pretty much “career-ending bans” for both the shuttlers.

Malaysia is known for producing top shuttlers and world-class performers in the field of badminton, but this behaviour truly is a sorry sight and a slap in the face for all Malaysians.
