There’s more to this than meets the eye. Sometimes, appearances can be deceptive and what looks beautiful to our eyes may be dangerous to us.

Just recently, TikTok user, Saby shared the mesmerising view at the Kelana Jaya Lake in PJ via her TikTok post, and what seemed like a usual football field turned out to be something else. At the first glance, you might even want to “walk” on the field, but your intention to do so may just cost you your life.

Shockingly, it’s nothing near to a football field but what you see is actually the surface of a lake completely covered in water lettuce! In the video, to convince other viewers, Saby took a tree branch and when she threw it into the lake, the water splashed.

Just imagine what would’ve happened if someone, especially a child was “lured” by the deceiving scenery.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Saby said that she shared the video somewhere in February, but the video had just been circulating on social media recently. She also said that the water lettuce on the surface has been cleared by the relevant authorities.

When asked if it was common, Saby, who drives by the lake regularly told WORLD OF BUZZ,

“It’s not common. I’m not sure why it happened. It looked beautiful, but it was so dangerous.”

Saby added that the process of removing the water lettuce started even before her video went viral. She has also posted a video which showed the greens being removed from the lake in PJ.

To those who are not aware, water lettuce, scientifically known as Pistia Stratiotes are a free-floating aquatic weed that rapidly forms dense mats covering rivers, dams, and irrigation canals. As Saby said, it looks beautiful but can be deadly, and this is because it can restrict water flow and increase water loss through a process known as evapotranspiration.

It can also serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. You can watch Saby’s video on the lake covered with water lettuce below.
