Shooting cases are rare in Malaysia, especially due to our country’s very strict gun control laws. So, when something like this happens, it causes quite the stir nationwide.
Since it happened, there’s been numerous follow ups and updates. So to keep y’all informed, we’ve summarized everything in this article:
1. This happened in KLIA 1 Arrival Terminal
On 14 April, approximately 1.20am, the gunman threw a firecracker that injured 2 passersby before approaching his wife in an attempt to shoot her.
He fired 2 shots from 3-4 meters away which one missed her, while the other unfortunately severely hitting her bodyguard.
2. The bodyguard has been put in a medically induced coma
The bullet that was shot hit the personal bodyguard in his stomach, causing him to be critically injured with severe bleeding.
He was then rushed to the hospital to undergo surgery and placed into a medically induced coma whereby once he’s stable, further treatment will be given. Unfortunately, he’s still in critical condition as he has trouble breathing but thankfully no vital organs were hit.
His wife revealed that he was only working as a bodyguard on part-time basis before Ramadhan.
3. The shooter is identified as Hafizul Harawi
The 38-year-old is reportedly going through a divorce with his wife and the attack may be fueled by personal vendetta.
Additionally, it’s revealed that the gunman has 3 past criminal records, 2 of which were lodged by his wife for harassment. Due to this, his wife hired 2 bodyguards after the harassment case in December 2023.
He also has a record for theft and impersonation of a civil servant.
4. Police is hunting the suspect down
Currently the police is on a manhunt for him and has labelled him armed and dangerous. They believed that he has obtained the gun illegally.
The police chief believes that the man is still in the country.
Authorities urge the public to contact them if they’ve any information that may help them with their investigation, and NOT approach the suspect themselves as he is wielding a weapon.
5. Farah Cie, the wife has since gave a short update that she will not making any comments
In a recent Facebook post, she mentions,
“The suspect is being hunted down. Refer to any police reports that are accurate.
“I will take my lawyer’s advice and will not be making any comments in regard to this case for the time being.”
