Passengers using e-hailing services at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 can expect a more organised pick-up experience as the airport rolls out a series of facility upgrades and operational improvements starting 4 August 2026.

The refreshed e-hailing pick-up system at Level 1, Main Terminal Building aims to make passenger arrivals smoother, faster and more convenient through several new features, including a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system linked with the Passenger Information Display System (PIDS), self-service kiosks, dedicated passenger waiting lounges, structured pick-up bays and on-ground marshals to assist passengers and manage traffic flow.

A fee of RM3 will be imposed; additional charges will apply if pick-up exceeds 10 minutes

In an official statement by Malaysia Airports (MAHB) today (4 August), the improvements are part of its ongoing efforts to enhance passenger experience, improve traffic movement and boost operational efficiency. The initiative was developed following discussions with e-hailing operators and in coordination with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), in line with recommendations from the National Airport Facilitation Working Committee (NAFWC).

To support the continued operation and maintenance of the upgraded facilities and systems, a RM3 entry fee will be imposed on every e-hailing vehicle entering the designated passenger pick-up area at KLIA, effective 4 August, 2026.

E-hailing vehicles will be given a maximum of 10 minutes at the kerbside pick-up area. Vehicles that exceed the allocated time will be subject to applicable penalty charges to ensure smoother traffic flow, better availability of pick-up bays and a more efficient experience for all passengers.

The upgraded e-hailing system will also strengthen monitoring and access control at the airport, helping to deter illegal e-hailing activities and ensuring only authorised e-hailing vehicles use the designated pick-up facilities.

Abd Hasman Abd Muhimin, Senior General Manager for Passenger Experience at KLIA, said the enhancements aim to create a more seamless travel experience for passengers.

“A great airport experience doesn’t end at the terminal. It continues throughout the passenger journey, where every touchpoint matters,” he said.

He also thanked e-hailing partners for their continued support and collaboration in creating a more organised and reliable first-mile and last-mile travel experience, adding that the upgrades are another step towards strengthening KLIA’s position as a world-class gateway.
