Rising a whopping 4 spots up, Kuala Lumpur now ranks no. 141, especially due to our country’s currency fluctuating. This is compared to over 500 countries all over the world by the way!
For the top 10 cities featured in the list, a shocking 8 of them are from Asia, indicating the region’s high cost of consumer goods and expensive housing market.
The cities which topped the list is actually Hong Kong, and it’s their SECOND year in consecutive being ranked as the most expensive country in the world!

The list is released in Mercer’s 25th Annual 2019 Cost of Living Survey today (27 June).
Their survey takes into consideration several factors and found that currency fluctuations, cost of inflation for goods and services, and volatility in accommodation prices, contribute to the overall cost of expatriate packages for employees on international assignments.
As for the world’s least expensive cities, they are are Tunis (209), Tashkent (208), and Karachi (207).
It is unfortunate for Malaysians as this list highlights that our country’s cost of living is indeed getting higher and higher. Something must definitely be looked into to help us citizens before we all struggle to make ends meet.
