Some couple decided to engage in a sexual relationship after only knowing each other for a week.

This was a remark made by the Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, who commented on the increase of rape cases in the state.

Kelantan Police Chief says the majority of rape cases in the state are consensual

According to him, Kelantan recorded 131 rape cases from January to September this year. In 2024, for the same time period, the state had 114 rape cases.

Yusoff also revealed another disturbing information about the increase of rape cases in the state.

Majority of the cases are consensual, involving minors, and the family members or the hospital lodged a police report after learning about the cases.

The cases most take place in the perpetrator’s houses or at budget hotels

Yusoff also explained that many of the case happened in their respective houses, in which the girl would follow the boys to their houses, or vice versa. If not houses, those involved had another alternative.

“Some of them rented budget hotels just to engage in the sexual relationships,” Yusoff said in a press conference today (21 October).

Yusoff also reminded parents to be alert and observant of their children’s movements and play their responsibilies in curbing the rape cases.

“At this time, parents need to be alert of the surroundings, and not to be ignorant.”

Just last week, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Kedah revealed that the ‘gang rape’ case that took place in a Baling school classroom was a case of consensual sexual relationship, involving 1 female teenager and 4 male teenagers.

The gang rape suspects in Melaka, on the other hand, were charged in court, with one of them pleading guilty, while the other sought trial.
