The Kedah State Government is planning to make it mandatory for billboards in the state to feature writing in the Jawi script, as a secondary writing to the Roman script.
This is according to Kedah State Local Government and Health Committee Chairperson Mansor Zakaria, who also revealed other conditions that the State Government is planning to enforce on billboards in Kedah.
Kedah State Government plans to make it mandatory for billboards to use the Jawi script
Harian Metro quoted Mansor as saying that while Roman and Jawi scripts are mandatory, scripts of other languages can also be used as a third script on billboards and advertisements placed at premises under the jurisdiction of the local authority (PBT).
Mansor stressed that this proposal is meant to be an alternative initiative by the State Government to dignify the Jawi script in line with existing by-laws.
He asserted,
“We already have by-laws encouraging the use of the Jawi script. This means that all billboards are encouraged to use Jawi as the second script.”
Images and visuals of sexy women on billboards will also be banned
Besides that, Mansor also revealed several other proposals regarding billboards and advertisements in the state.
These include banning the use of images and visuals featuring sexy women, prohibited items, firearms and dangerous weapons, as well as being seditious and racially provocative.
