In the latest update on the Movement Control Order, a new federal gazette on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (No.4) Regulations 2020, will now allow two people from the same family to travel together to shop for necessities or seek medical services during the MCO period.

This was stipulated under “conditions for movement”, which states that:

  • a person may be accompanied by one family member staying in the same house, to buy necessities
  • a person is also allowed to be accompanied by any other person “as may be deemed reasonably necessary” to seek for healthcare services.

The new regulations are expected to take effect starting from today, up until 12th May 2020. The gazette was dated March 28. In his televised address to the nation today (29th April 2020), Malaysia Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri has confirmed that travel beyond a 10km radius for purposes of buying necessities or seeking medical attention is allowed within reason.

According to NST, anybody who is found going against the gazette can be liable to a RM1,000 fine, jail of up to six months, or both.

What do you guys think of this development?
