You’ll be surprised to know how many brave drivers out there have the guts to drive without a valid road tax displayed on the windshield.
In a recent operation by JPJ, another luxury car, the Volvo XC90 was seized by the authority for not having a valid road tax. The driver was stopped at Jalan Sungai Rasau Lama heading towards Shah Alam at around 10 pm last week. The driver was on his way home from work.
Through inspection by JPJ officers, they found that the Motor Vehicle License had expired and not only that, but the car also did not have valid insurance.
“The car involved has been impounded under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further action.”
Earlier, a BMW driver had his car confiscated for the same reasons, citing “short-distance” driving as the reason for not renewing his road tax. This time, what could be the reason for the Volvo XC90 driver?
According to Sinar Harian, the driver said,
“This is a company car and I forgot to renew the road tax.”
JPJ also reminded the public the public can send any complaint to aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my or the e-complaint application platform along with details of the complainant.
It may seem like a trivial matter but driving without a valid road tax has a lot of consequences, especially if you get into an accident.
