The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has ordered the Johor Islamic Religious Council or the Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Johor (MAINJ) to investigate an anti-Rohingya banner which surfaced in front of a surau said to have belonged to the community in Kg. Plentong Baru, Masai that went viral on social media.

Ordering a thorough investigation on the matter, Sultan Ibrahim said that the banner has generated much negativity against mosques and suraus in the area.

As investigations are currently underway, the Sultan has ordered members of the public to not make any more speculations on the matter as it will create unneeded negativity on the matter.

“Let’s not be hasty in coming up with statements on social media without proper investigation, up to a point of creating slander.”

Pasir Gudang MP, Hassan Abdul Karim has also stepped up on the matter and criticised the anti-Rohingya banner.

The banner surfaced in the wake of the government’s announcement that only Malaysians are allowed to attend congregational and Friday prayers once restrictions under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) have been eased.

We urge members of the public to not add much unneeded speculation on the matter, and allow the authorities to carry out their duties in apprehending the culprits responsible.
