If you’re a huge fan of the John Wick movie franchise, you’ll definitely know Charon, the loyal and trustworthy concierge of the New York Continental Hotel who aids John Wick, portrayed by Lance Reddick.
Sadly, it has been reported that Lance Reddick has passed away yesterday (March 17), less than 1 week before the release of John Wick Chapter 4, where Lance will make his final appearance as Charon. His cause of death is unknown at the time being, said Mia Hansen, his publicist who added that Lance’s body was found at his home.
Authorities, however, said that Lance’s death appeared to be natural.
Keanu Reeves, the star who plays the movie’s titular character, and Chad Stahelski, the director of ALL John Wick movies are both saddened and shocked by the news.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick,” the pair said in a statement, as reported by Deadline.
The casts of the John Wick movie franchise are obviously heartbroken about Lance’s demise as Ian McShane, who plays Winston, the manager of New York Continental Hotel also had fond words to say about Lance, who shared the most screentime with him in the movie.
“Total shock and disbelief. Lance was a wonderful human being and a wonderful colleague. My deepest condolences, peace and love to his wife, Stephanie, and all his family,” he said.
Lance Reddick found fame even before John Wick, with more than 100 movie credits under his belt, according to IMDb. He was widely known for his character as Cedric Daniels in The Wire, as well as the main antagonist, Albert Wesker in Netflix’s adaptation of Resident Evil, which lasted only 1 season.
Prior to his death, Lance had been actively promoting John Wick Chapter 4, which is slated for a worldwide release on March 23, 2023. His last Instagram post was on March 16, when he was seen playing with his dogs. John Wick Chapter 4 also marks Lance’s last movie appearance before his passing.
John Wick Chapter 4 also stars Donnie Yen, and Bill Skarsgard as the main villain.
Rest in peace, Lance Reddick. You’ll be missed.
