A tourist from China recently shared how they felt like they had travelled back in time upon coming to Malaysia for a visit.

The tourist, 喜欢长期投资, took to their Xiaohongshu page to explain how Malaysia feels like China, but if it was 20 years ago, for various reasons including low prices and the lack of electric vehicles (EVs).

They wrote, “I just arrived in Malaysia yesterday. I felt like I was back in China 20 years ago. It’s very retro. 90% of the cars are Japanese and the oil price is only about RM3.3 per litre. There are almost no EVs here and I have yet to see a Tesla.”

“But, Chinese brands have been spotted advertising here, such as Huawei and Xiaomi.”

They went on to further elaborate on how prices in Malaysia are cheaper compared to China.

“Prices are about 30% lower than China. And hotels are also cheap, with Hilton only costing slightly over RM300. I am happy that durian is freely available and very delicious here. I bought 3 small durians for RM83. I shared an order with 2 Chinese strangers and ate them by the roadside,” they added.

Many agreed with the tourist’s statements.
