Just recently, national hockey player, Hanis Onn was suspended from representing the country in the upcoming 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia over a racial remark that she made about AR Rahman’s concert.

In response to that, PAS Youth Chief, Fadhli Shaari voiced out against the suspension and called the punishment “too harsh.”

“It’s too harsh of a punishment for what she has allegedly done, and she has also apologised for the matter as well as removing the comment.”

Additionally, investigations have also proven that Hanis has a humble personality and has always maintained her discipline. In Fadhli’s Facebook post, he stated that Hanis’ coach has confirmed that she has a lot of Indian friends, and they have been mingling around without any issue.

“This means that her comment on social media has no elements of racism, and her intention is far from inciting a racial debate, as claimed by many netizens,” Fadhli expressed his thoughts.

He also said the suspension is not only too harsh for Hanis but will also damage her reputation and future, as well as rob away the opportunity for the country’s squad to win in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.

“Hannah Yeoh, please intervene”

Fadhli has also asked for the Minister of Youth & Sports, Hannah Yeoh to intervene in the matter and revoke the suspension.

“I’m sure she’ll handle this issue wisely,” Fadhli said in his statement.

As a public figure, the things we say can potentially come back to us with repercussions. In this case, do you think Hanis Onn should be suspended from representing the country?
