With the Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) still underway, another 28 new stations have been proposed, not in Selangor, not in Kuala Lumpur, but in Ipoh!

These new stations have been proposed and are planned to be developed in Ipoh city, with a route of 58 kilometres as part of the Draft Ipoh City Local Plan 2035 (Replacement). The project is expected to have 2 different routes, which include,

  • Meru Raya – Ipoh – Batu Gajah (30 KM)
  • Bandar Sunway – Ipoh- Simpang Pulai (28 KM)

The frequency of each train is expected to be 6 minutes.

According to Astro Awani, these proposed routes and stations will not only improve the traffic of the town but also contribute to economic growth. The LRT will also connect the main towns in Ipoh and consequently, it will be the main option for the people who stay there to commute to work in order to avoid the peak hours on the road.

State Housing, Tourism and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi also said that aside from the LRT stations, they will be accompanied by other conveniences such as transit buses, trams and cabs to increase the mobility of the people in Ipoh.

Do we really need to wait until 2035?

Datuk Nolee has revealed that the cost and the duration needed to build the station hubs are still in observation and discussion. Hence, no dates nor years have been given yet, as reported by BERNAMA.

The proposed stations

As they will include 2 different routes, here’s the proposed stations.

  1. Meru Raya, Jelapang, Manjoi, Silibin, Medan Kidd, main station, UTC Ipoh, Pasir Puteh, Pasir Pinji, Falim, Menglembu, Pengkalan, Station 18, Lahat, Batu Gajah Perdana dan Batu Gajah. (First route)
