The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exams is notorious for being one of the most difficult exams in the world to complete and it is not uncommon for people to retake the exam after failing to pass.
With that said, it is also not impossible to score with flying colours. A young Malaysian student recently made the country proud by scoring the highest marks in his third paper in the ACCA exams, which took place in September 2022.
Nicholas Hoe Zi Zai emerged as the top scorer in the world at the “Advanced Financial Management” paper with a score of 86. This is a huge achievement at the international level!
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Nicholas said that he feels surprised as the achievement was beyond his expectations.
“I think a large part of becoming the prize winner is luck. Every student will have some topics that they are strong in and some they are weak in. If you get an exam that favors your strong topics, there is always a chance“, said the 24-year-old who hails from Johor Bahru.
Nonetheless, he also acknowledges that the journey wasn’t easy.
Currently residing in Australia, it was quite challenging for Nicholas to make time to study and revise as he is also juggling 4 part-time jobs in the hospitality industry.
So, to ensure that he’ll be able to cover the entire syllabus, he would always bring his study notes with him when he’s travelling to his workplace or when he’s having his lunch break.
“All I can say is that it’s a long but rewarding journey,” he said.
One of Nicholas’ university coursemate, Gavin also expressed his happiness for Nicholas’ achievement.
“I’m so proud that he managed to achieve such outstanding results. I know that he has put a lot of effort into studying for the exam, and I sincerely hope his achievement could be shared among the public, encouraging other students who are still fighting for their exams.”
Prior to the exams this year, Nicholas has also passed the Standard Business Reporting (SBR) and Strategic Business Leader (SBL) papers in 2022. He only has one more paper to go before being recognised as an ACCA Affiliate.
He plans to apply for an accounting or finance-related job after that.
Huge congratulations to you, Nicholas!
