K-dramas are the gateway for the rest of the world to glimpse Korean culture. Through it, we were introduced to their fashion, language and most importantly, their food and drinks.

Often times, we find ourselves swallowing our saliva at how good some of the street food looks. For one Indonesian woman, Sovi, she was more focused on the ever-popular, soju.

Soju is a clear alcohol that is consumed in large quantities in Korea. Its alcohol content is usually in the 20s and it is made from rice, other grains or starches such as sweet potatoes.

Sovi said that her halal soju is named Mojiso. It does not have any alcohol content and is made with ingredients that are 100% halal. According to Kompas.com, Sovi is a big fan of K-dramas.

“There are lots of halal Korean food and I have tried most of them but I’ve never really tried the drinks.”

After getting to know of a mojito recipe from her friend, she experimented and tweaked it a little to produce the halal soju. Along with her friend, Rinda, who owns an online food store they successfully marketed the product.

The halal soju has a few flavours which include yoghurt, lychee, green tea and strawberry. It is marketed in the typical green soju glass bottle and is described as “Korean sparkling water”, according to The Jakarta Post. One netizen even said the taste was refreshing and not very soda-y.

One 360ml bottle of the halal soju costs 45,000 rupiahs which amounts to RM12.80.
