Rice has always been a staple food in Asian households, but no one would’ve thought that it would become a reason to kill.

A 52-year-old Indonesian woman died as she was rushed to the hospital after her son had severely beaten her with a piece of fire wood after she failed to cook rice for him.

As according to Tribun News, the incident happened at Dusun Muara Tolang, Desa Doloksaut, Indonesia.

“The abusive incident committed by the suspect against his own mother occurred on Saturday, at 10am at his house,” said the Taput AKP Police Chief Jonser Banjarnahor.

It started when the suspect asked his mother to prepare rice for him, after he had woken up at around 9am. His mother then told him that he could eat at their neighbour’s house as there was a small banquet happening, but he insistently rejected the suggestion.

“The victim then answered ‘I did not cook rice at home, I cooked rice at the neighbour’s house for the banquet, if you want to eat, just eat there’, but the suspect could not accept her answer and an argument broke out.”

The argument got heated and the son resorted to hitting his mother on the head with a piece of fire wood.

“After the argument, the suspect took a piece of fire wood from outside of their house and hit his mother very hard on her head. His mother had not collapsed yet when the suspect hit her on the head again with full force, until his mother fell,” he shared.

He then went over to his neighbour’s house to let them know what he had done.

“After his mother fell to the ground, covered in blood, the suspect left her there to tell the neighbours that he had beaten her and to tell them where she was. The neighbours arrived and rushed her to the hospital but on their way there, she had died,” he added.

The son was arrested to help with the investigation into this matter and will be facing 15 years in jail if found guilty.
