For the love of Malaysia (and Anime)!

Malaysian fans of Jujutsu Kaisen recently had another reason to be excited after Nanami mentioned Kuantan as his desired location to retire. However, the district in Pahang is not the only Malaysian spot that the anime has mentioned. In the latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen, one of the characters sees himself in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of our country!

The viral scene shows Mei Mei speaking on the phone and telling the other party that she is in KL, with another scene showing the time in the city, as well as the beloved landmark – KLCC in the background.

The stills of the scene were shared on the Facebook page of TGV Cinemas. Is this a discreet message from the creators of Jujutsu Kaisen who are possibly (and subtly) hinting at their love towards Malaysia?

When Nanami first mentioned Kuantan, the scene “blew up” the internet and Malaysian netizens got excited over the unexpected mention. The scene even gained the attention of the Pahang State government, who said that they were trying to contact the creators of the anime to get their endorsement to build a memorial on Kuantan Beach.

“Fans of the episode had marked this in Google Maps as a memorial to Kento Nanami,” state exco Leong Man Yu said.

The attempt to get in touch with the creators of Jujutsu Kaisen is also an effort to make Kuantan Beach a tourist attraction, especially for anime fans around the world.

At the time of writing (December 23), Man Yu has yet to provide any updates on the matter. Let’s not lose hope and have faith that Kuantan now has the power to attract anime fans around the world, as well as KL which was just mentioned in the recent episode.

Shall we expect another mention of a location in Malaysia anytime soon?
