It’s only human nature to forget something. You forget your mobile phone, he forgets his wallet, and the necklace slips off of her mind. Whatever you do, there is something you CANNOT forget before heading out – your IC.
On his TikTok account @thejokercho, the Malaysian man recalls the time when he spent 4 days behind bars all thanks to his decision – going out without his IC.
The incident took place many years back when Cho was only 16 when he lost his original IC but had a temporary IC which came in the form of an A4 paper. On a Sunday, Cho decided to go to The Store, a shopping centre in Klang, and after consideration, he decided to keep his temporary IC at home. Gutsy move, but here’s why he did it.
“I always put the temporary IC in my pocket and I was afraid the paper would tear off, or get exposed to the rain. So, I kept it in my wardrobe.”
After his meal, Cho walked by an area in the mall where a group of foreigners was seen in cuffs and it was just not his day. A police stopped him and found out that he had no form of identification with him.
So, to the police station.
“My friend had his IC, so he was let go. I told him to tell my parents that I was caught.”
Cho spent 4 days in the detention room at the police station, where he said the police took good of him before he was brought to the court. The judge asked if he had any appeal to make but all Cho had to say was a promise.
“I promise I will carry my IC with me anywhere I go.”
The judge then sentenced him to 1 day of prison. Cho then asked the people around about it, to which he was assured,
“You’re just going to spend the day in the court’s prison. By 4PM, you’ll be out. It’s just a waiting game.”
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Cho said he decided to share this experience on TikTok because he wanted to spread awareness about the consequences of not carrying your IC with you.
“I don’t want anyone to experience the same thing I did,” Cho told WORLD OF BUZZ.
@thejokercho
You can forget anything, but not your IC. You don’t want to spend a day, or even a hot minute behind bars just for a minor offense.
