As reported by Astro Awani, our Human Resources Minister, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan urged all Malaysians, including professionals that have lost their source of income to take any jobs available to them, regardless of the pay the vacany offers. This is because of the uncertainty in the current economic situation.

In June this year, the unemployment rate in our country is 4.9 percent or 773,200 people based on the statistics given by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). This is actually a decrease to what it was back in May, whereby the unemployment rate was 5.3 percent or 826,100 people.

In addressing this situation, Saravanan commented,

“It is better for us to have employment opportunities that offer low wage than not have jobs at all,”

He further adviced fellow Malaysians to take up any jobs available to them,

“I advise all Malaysians to accept any form of employment, even if there are substantial pay cuts due to the unprecedented situation we are in,”

He is of course referring to the Covid-19 pandemic that has qaffected all of the world’s economy and left many jobless. Saravanan however assured Malaysians that the situation will get better, especialy with various programmes and special initiatives that the government has planned to address this matter.

“Until things get better, we have to hold on to any employment opportunities, even if it means less pay and others… but it is all only temporary.”

A previous statement back in May by the HR Minister have courted controversy when he said that now is not the time to to be fussy and talk about plans and dreams and urged for Malaysians to put them aside.
