The ongoing  Covid-19 pandemic around the globe has put many people in distress and nationwide lockdowns have made people rather restless.

A man in Gujarat, India was reported that he wasn’t handling the lockdown situation well when he was found lying unconscious on the temple floor with his own tongue in his hand.

Tongue

According to Times of India, Vivek Sharma is a 24-year-old migrant from Madhya Pradesh and he works as a stone sculptor in Suigam, a village in Gujarat. His co-worker, Brijesh Singh, had reported to the police stating that when Vivek left the temple which he works in, he claimed that he was going to the market. But, he then never returned on Saturday morning (18 April).

When everyone started to realise that Vivek had not return, his brother had called him, hoping to reach Vivek through mobile. However, someone else answered the call and stated that Vivek had cut his tongue off. Vivek had chopped off his tongue in a different temple known as Nadeshwari Temple.

India Today reported stating the preliminary inquiry uncovered that Vivek had become extremely homesick and was restless ever since the government had banned inter-district or inter-state movement and a lockdown was imposed for containing Coronavirus.

Department sources say that that they thought the tongue sacrifice would please the deity that Vivek prays to and stop the coronavirus spread, concluded Times of India.

“We found him lying unconscious in the temple premises with the tongue in his hand. The priest called the Border Security Force (BSF) commander and Sharma was shifted to a hospital in Tharad town where doctors are trying to reattach his tongue,” stated HD Parmar, police sub-inspector, Suigam.

However, the reasons behind Vivek’s actions were not confirmed yet by the authorities as Berita Awani reported that the local police in Suigam are conducting an in-depth investigation to ensure the true motive behind such drastic actions.
