It looks like all eyes are on former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after news broke that he was allegedly arrested yesterday (March 8) by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) while he was at a golf course. This turned out to be false, as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman and BERSATU President himself shared.
Following that, this morning (March 9), a rally was held outside the MACC Putrajaya building where Muhyiddin was brought to give his statement in regards to the Jana Wibawa scandal.
For those who may not know, the Jana Wibawa programme was implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic under the approval of Muhyiddin, who was the Prime Minister at that time. This initiative was a continuation of the Competent Bumiputera Construction Contractor Development Programme that had started in 1993.
After Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) came into power as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia, he accused the 8th Prime Minister of misappropriating RM600 billion in government funds.
MACC then launched an investigation and froze BERSATU’s account in relation to RM92.5 billion in government funds that was allegedly also misappropriated by the PN government when implementing various stimulus packages during the Covid-19 pandemic.
On top of that, multiple people including BERSATU’s information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan and businessman Adam Radlan had recently went on trial for apparently accepting and soliciting bribes in millions surrounding the Jana Wibawa programme.
Now, Muhyiddin has been barred from leaving the country, and is apparently expected to be arrested by MACC and charged in court by tomorrow (March 10).
“Today is a day of action by the Madani government led by Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which Tan Sri Muhyiddin was instructed to go to the MACC office to record evidence.”
“It is expected that he will be arrested and charged in court tomorrow. We see this action as very inhumane because we will hold party elections tomorrow,” shared BERSATU Head of Information, Datuk Razali Idris.
