To restrict the transmission of the Covid-19 virus, the government has launched the MySejahtera application to replace manual forms.
The public is required to provide their basic personal information whenever they enter a premise by scanning the QR codes using the app. The registration is able to help the government detect Covid-19 patients as well as people who have come in close contact with them.
The MySejahtera app is rather essential during this pandemic as digitalisation plays such a huge role in our daily lives. But, you can still see manual writing methods being used widely in Malaysia, which begs the question, have you ever thought about what are the pros and cons of the MySejahtera app?
MySejahtera Application: Pros
One of the benefits of using the MySejahtera app is to check into places quickly and conveniently. A scan of a QR code saves you time and energy.
First-time users are required to fill in a survey to find out the risk of that particular person getting the Covid-19 disease. Assistance such as guidelines of the actions you need to take and the information about the nearest health facilities is provided. There is a video by the government to teach you how to download and register the MySejahtera app on your mobile devices.
As an application developed through strategic cooperation between the Health Ministry, National Security Council, Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, this application also provides the Ministry of Health (MOH) with the necessary information to plan for early and effective countermeasures.
Besides that, the MySejahtera app is also more credible and reliable, since the information which is manually filled-up can easily be falsified.
Minister from Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s Special Functions Department, Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof said that the number of registered users for the MySejahtera application stands at 15.1 million people, where a total of 322 Covid-19 patients, which is 3.4% of the total 9,200 cases of Covid-19, were detected through the application, as of Sunday (16 August 2020).
“This proves that this application can help the government in controlling the spread of Covid-19,” he added, according to BERNAMA.
Now, you can even check in your whole family in the MySejahtera app, which is even more convenient and saves you more time! Click here to find out how.
MySejahtera Application: Cons
Everything seems so well and convenient until your phone runs out of battery or data. Emergencies can happen and the chances of your phone dying because the battery is drained out, or where there is no Wi-Fi or data available in the specific area, are often unpredictable.
During the discussion between Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, the National Security Council and the office of the Attorney-General, he said that: “We want to encourage these premises when registering to open, to have the MySejahtera application so that anyone entering their premises have to use the application and no longer fill out a form.”
“But we will not put a stop to the use of the form. This is a process of developing a new culture… we are carrying out various methods to make it easy for the people to help the government to curb the spread of Covid-19,” he further explained.
At least for now, the manual method for people to fill up their personal information will still be made available, thus when something happens to their phone, people can still provide their particulars.
And you never know, your phone might also lag.
Anyhow, the public should always comply with the government’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and not lie about their personal details when filling up the forms.
